I bet they were christian even before they experienced it. Because it was never mentioned if they were religious at all. This is the cause of this I think.

@nephilimwatcher63 Your humility and honesty about yourself is refreshing and is something I've rarely encountered when speaking with Protestants about these issues. I commend you on your fortitude to live out your beliefs and wish you strength in your struggles ahead. All I suggest to you is to keep researching the history of the Church, read the writings of the early Church Fathers. Find not the truth that appeals to you, but the truth that is universal and real, as you have so aptly put :)

@mrdude999 Look, I've told you what I believe and what I have read about Catholicism. You obviously can defend your position better than I can mine. I can't get into all these issues because I don't know. What I do know is that I am in perfect peace within my heart and soul because of my relationship to Jesus. As I walk with Him, He guides me, corrects me and loves me. He is my only authority. Truth is truth whether we believe it or not. Truth is truth whether we agree on it or not
